ENUNCIATE

Sometimes (all the time) Zara is painfully pronounced wrongfully, take Kanye’s pronunciation back in Oct. Everyones given it their best go but Refinery29 were hanging out with some sale reps recently and they finally asked the what seemed so mind-boggling question… Exactly how do you say Zara?

I think I nailed it.

JADEN SMITH, OUR KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR

2

Jaden Pinkett Smith leads us into the new age of fashion as he models for Louis Vuitton womenswear fall ’16.

Jaden Smith is no stranger to defying gender rules, often known for his unique look in which he disregards the social norms and opts to wear, super hero costumes and dresses. But this fall he has been more than just the new face of Vuitton’s fall, but the inspiration too.

Nicolas Ghesquière, creative director of the house of Louis Vuitton, explained why the label wanted Jaden to model for this particular collection. “Why does Jaden Smith star in this campaign? He represents a generation that has assimilated the codes of true freedom, one that is free of manifestos and questions about gender,” says Ghesquière in a Louis Vuitton press release. “Wearing a skirt comes as naturally to him as it would to a woman who, long ago, granted herself permission to wear a man’s trench or a tuxedo.”

The actor/rapper is has always been well received for his clothing choices, but this campaign has especially taken to fans well. One wrote: “Brilliant campaign.” Whilst another added: “So admire you. No labels. Live your life.”

Ghesquière himself could be described as a fan, as he went on to state “Jaden Smith conveys something very interesting about the integration of a global wardrobe, he’s found an instinctive balance that makes his extraordinary attitude a new norm. That really inspired me in the creative process for this collection.” Check out the series 4 campaign shoot by Bruce Weber below.

Whilst Jaden may not be the first to to bend the gender rules, ###, he certainly is someone to bring it to the mainstream spotlight, which is ever more important in today’s society where feminism and equality is becoming a fearlessly strong movement.

Another fan goes on to say ‘[We] You give clothes too much power.’ in response to negative comments following the campaign shoot, the fact is the statement couldn’t be more true, and Jaden Smith has bought light to that. Jaden plays a noble role in bringing us to the new age of fashion, now to just sit and wait in anticipation for the big campaign release, soon to be out.

Zara is the first to bring a gender neutral range to the high street market, simply named ‘UNGENDERED‘ hopefully this too will pave the way to the new age of fashion.

AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY HE CREATED Z-DAY

Should you leave this blog with only one thing, let it be this; Z-DAY. The day in which Zara receives its new stock.

For anyone betrothed to fashion, you may expect this to come seasonally. Four times a year, correct? Just like any other high street store, or even, like any other high fashion store… But oh no, the very contrary, it comes not once a week, but twice.

That’s right. Zara gives us fashion slaves an exquisite 104 seasons to look forward to. It’s no wonder the Spanish retail giant is at the forefront of fast fashion; no other company can quite hit the carbon copies of the catwalk replicas like Zara do so quickly. On average most retailers garments hit shop floors within 6 months, Zara’s hit our shopping bags just 3 weeks later. They produce over 30,000 gems of garments a year.

Which is why their devoted customers visit their store 6x more than their competitors, because exactly how else do we keep up with their latest designs?

Anyone who holds their own Zara loafers close to their hearts, closer than Wintour and her Manolo’s, understands that despite being a fast fashion champion, there is nothing short of quality in their products. Having created a vertically integrated business model, most of their clothing is manufactured inhouse, limiting outsourcing. Their magical global distribution centre moves 2.5 million items per week, and no item remains warehoused for more than 72 hours.

And for those who are ethically inclined (which should be every one of you) will be pleased to know that any outsourcing is done in poorer eu countries, rather than the developing world, thus helping them to move forward economically too.

So now you know of the magical day, the next step is to find out which days you can highlight in your Filofax diaries… simply ask your Zara sales advisor and you’ll have it!
